We’ve got a lot to look forward to this year! Below are some highlights from the coming season, for a full calendar, visit our website.
Lusitania R.E.X: This novel by Greg Taylor comes out just in time for the 100th anniversary of the sinking of Lusitania, a tragedy that claimed the lives of over 1000 people, including Alfred G Vanderbilt I, who bought Great Camp Sagamore in 1901. A historical fiction account, Lusitania R.E.X, weaves together fact and speculation to create a plausible explanation for the sinking. Given the close ties between Great Camp Sagamore and the Lusitania, the novel is sure to intrigue friends of camp.
Road Scholar Programs: We have a lot to offer this year, including new programs in fly fishing and regional history. Our ever-popular Grands programs are back under the direction of Andrew Gillcrist, our new Outdoors and Family Programs Director. Our Grands programs are a week of bonding over traditional Adirondack and outdoor activities for kids ages 6 to 13 to attend with their grandparents. Every week is packed with outdoor skills, swimming, canoeing, arts and crafts and music and stories around the campfire.
Black Fly Mountain Bike Weekend: All participating in the annual Black Fly Challenge bike race between Indian Lake and Inlet are invited to join us for the weekend! This unique weekend has been especially crafted with bikers and their needs in mind – Friday starts with a dinner cruise aboard the WW Durant with a meal created to supply bikers with lean protein, fat and carbs, we have comfy beds for a good night’s rest, a hearty breakfast before the race and beer, music and a barbeque to return to afterward. Last years’ participants loved the convenience of staying between the starting and end points of the race. We look forward to seeing them, and newcomers, this June 12th to 14th!
Black Fly Craft-Brewing Weekend: Now in its fourth edition, this popular weekend brings together beer enthusiasts and brewers of all levels of expertise for a weekend of sharing and enjoying beer, its making and its history in the region. Brewers from Matt Brewing, the Adirondack Pub and Brewery, Good Nature Brewing and the Saratoga Zymurgist, among others, join us to enrich the weekend with their expertise. This weekend is part of our Slow Living, an educational series design to highlight ecologically and economically-sustainable activities, and we are proud to bring it back once again!
Internships: Great Camp Sagamore offers a range of internships in historic interpretation, hospitality, event planning, food service and outdoors programing. Interns live on site and enjoy a unique summer of work in a gorgeous place with an awesome team. College students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
Happy 2015 from Great Camp Sagamore! We wish you all a wonderful new year, and look forward to seeing you in the new season!
